2011 Race Report
A big thanks to all competitors who took part in the 2011 Rotary Run! We couldn't have done it without you. We also couldn't
have done it without all our volunteers, as many of the competitors have already told us. Nor could we have done it without
the support of our generous sponsors, including the many community businesses that provided draw prizes.
Here are a few of the highlights:
- Records fell in many sectors — overall and age divisions
- Katherine Moore established a new Women's record for the Half Marathon with a very fine 1:22:57
and then used that to go off to the Toronto Waterfront Marathon where she finished as top Canadian Woman. Congratulations to Katherine!
- Tyler Ginther set the new 5K standard for Men with a 17:30 time
- Rene McKibbin also set a shiny new 5K Women's record with a time of 19:57
- We established 5-year age divisions (Half Marathon) for the first time this year and have updated and
“transitioned” all records from 10 year to 5 year divisions while recognizing both the old and new records.
- Overall winner of the Half Marathon was Tatsuya Hatachi in a time of 1:19:03
- Overall Relay winner was Running Smile with a time of 1:30:30
- As with most races these days Final Official Results are only confirmed well after the event. The Final Race Results are now
posted at the link above.
- Despite the way the day dawned (or didn't, as it was pouring rain at the time) the races were actually run mostly in sunshine.
That didn't stop the winds though and organizers were impressed with the times recorded by all competitors.
- The power outage part way through the awards program didn't seem to dampen the spirits of those who stayed to the very end,
and we thank everyone for supporting other competitors by staying to cheer their achievements.
- The She Loves Half Marathon for Living Hope group participated in numbers — some 40 strong, (most doing their first half
marathon) in support of women in Africa. We have been told that to this point they have raised in excess of $28,000 and
counting.
- We have already had many comments from participants and welcome more at rotaryrunracedirector@gmail.com.
Please help us to build an even better race for next year.
- Many photographs were taken,
especially at the finish. Thanks to everyone for their patience. And thanks to Volunteer —
Jessamine Makepeace for a huge job of photographing our races on September 25th. As there were three races and several starts
(and just one clock), the clock showing in the photograph doesn't mean all that much. All photographs are in order of finish.
All 5K competitors finished before any Half Marathon or Relay competitors so have their own Album. The Half and Relay finishers
are in order. You can check your OA (Overall) finish place in the results and then search for your photos in the "Album" that
covers your placing. ENJOY!
