Team Relay

Four-person Relay Team completes certified half-marathon! Good tune-up for BC Athletics Whistler 50 Relay!

Runner 1 ~ 5km; Runner 2 ~ 6km; Runner 3 ~ 8.5km; Runner 4 ~ 1.6km

Runner #1, wearing the slap strap (with your race number attached), runs the first, 5km leg to Relay Exchange #1, located in the 1800 block of 140A Street. This Relay Exchange will be indicated by signage, an easy-up tent, and will be manned by race volunteers.

Runner #2 MUST BE WAITING AT THIS RELAY EXCHANGE. Runner #1 removes the slap strap and passes it to Runner #2. Runner #2, wearing the slap strap, runs the second, 6km leg to Relay Exchange #2 located approximately 200 metres east of the intersection of 128th Street and 28th Avenue in Crescent Park. This Relay Exchange will be indicated by signage, an easy-up tent, and will be manned by race volunteers. There is parking nearby, and there will also be a portapotty in the vicinity.

Runner #3 MUST BE WAITING AT THIS RELAY EXCHANGE. Runner #2 removes the slap strap and passes it to Runner #3. Runner #3, wearing the slap strap, runs the third, 8.5km leg to Relay Exchange #3, located in the 1800 block of 140A Street. This Relay Exchange will be indicated by signage, an easy-up tent, and will be manned by race volunteers.

Runner #4 MUST BE WAITING AT THIS RELAY EXCHANGE, WEARING YOUR TEAM'S TIMING CHIP! Runner #3 removes the slap strap, passes it to Runner #4, who runs the last, 1.6km leg to the finish!

Tips:

• Only Runner #4 (the last runner), wears the timing chip! Runner #4, do NOT go near the timing mats (at the start/finish) wearing the timing chip until you are finishing your leg of the Relay.
• Your teammate will be REALLY ANNOYED arriving at the Relay Exchange to pass you the slap strap if you are not there waiting: trust me on this. Therefore, arrange to be dropped off at your Relay Exchange well in advance of your teammate's estimated arrival time and PAY ATTENTION to runners approaching the Relay Exchange so you are ready to receive the slap strap and start your leg of the race.
• It helps to have a "support person" who's not running the Relay drop off and pick up your team members at their Relay Exchanges. You will need to plan this in advance. After you've finished your leg of the Relay, return to South Surrey Athletic Park to watch the finish and enjoy the post-race refreshments and festivities. • Ensure your team's support vehicle does not obstruct the race course, the Relay Exchanges or any driveways! This event can only continue from year to year provided that we respect those who live along the race course.

Four new categories have been added. When entering online, you will find two primary categories: Competitive and Recreational. This is administrative only. You can be as competitive or laid-back as you wish regardless of category. Under “Competitive”, you will find: Running Clubs and the three cumulative age categories (Under 126, 126-174 and Over 175). Under “Recreational”, you will find: Corporate, Service Clubs, Family and Emergency Services.

If any sub-sector can show us they have 10 qualifying teams, for instance Financial Services or Medical Practices, we will consider creating a separate prize category.
